Hi everyone!

I come back here because I have an important mission to accomplish! You see, with the support of my University, I'm developing a research about television and, in particular, about the tv-show LOST. I don't know if there'll ever be someone out there that will read this post and, at the same time, has seen this series, but just in case I give you the link to a questionnaire related to it:

Lost questionnaire

So, if you saw LOST and its fifth season, pleeeease, give it a try! I need all the answers I can get! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

Ciao a tutti!

Grazie mille a tutti e buona giornata!

Wow... A long time has passed since my last message... but I'm changing phone operator at home and it's taking AGES to have everything settled down. I'm starting to feel a strong need to call a lawyer... @__@

While waiting for my Internet connection to be back I created some banners... I'll post a first bunch, but I hope to be back soon to upload everything else.

Wonderful. Just wonderful. I had planned the best party of my life to celebrate the New Year and... I got sick. YAY for me. *snorts*

My evening was really quite uneventful: I couldn't go out, couldn't dance by myself, couldn't do much more than watching TV and using my pc. Well, at least that gave me the perfect excuse to work on some other TDK graphic things.

Before posting them, however, let me wish you a very happy 2009!!!! May it be full of... penguins, new obsessions to write fanfictions about, new fandoms to follow, new plans for the future and a lot of love!

May God bless you all!

As for the rest,

Bella...

Ma sale su l`inferno a stringere me
(Quasimodo, Notre Dame de Paris)

I should have watched this show sooner, but I never had the chance to do so. A dear friend of mine (God bless her!!!) lent me the DVD the other day and...woah. I think I've discovered a new obsession. Everything about it is AMAZING. Its songs, its scenography, its singers and dancers... Gives you goosebumps, believe me.

Anyway, here's a couple of videos I found online. Matteo Setti (aka the poet Gringoire) is, in my opinion, the best character of the show. His voice is gorgeous. The song of the video opens the show... I can barely imagine what it must have been to listen to a "start" like that, for the people who were lucky enough to be there.

And here's another favourite one mine: Bella. It's a song dedicated to Esmeralda, the gipsy woman who conquered the heart of the three main characters. It speaks about their desire for her and about her beauty... Magic.

I'm still creating some icons about the show, but in the meantime, I give you a first bunch of them, all dedicated to Frollo, the priest driven mad by his love for Esmeralda. He's wonderfully portrayed by Vittorio Matteucci.

Living in Italy and don't having enough time for the net causes functional disasters like the one of not knowing what a meme is.

That's a shame on my part, because, seriously, I study things like those! Having full knowledge of them is required, santo cielo!

So. I checked on Wiki and found its meaning.

The term Internet meme is a neologism used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an inside joke. The term is a reference to the concept of memes, although this concept refers to a much broader category of cultural information.
Wikipedia

"Madness? ...This is SPARTA!!!", used in places where it doesn't make complete sense, is a meme.
I've heard that even those lists I like so much (100 things I'd like to do, ...) are examples of memes.

So, using the excuse to get used to this kind of things, I leave you with my answers to one of those lists. Aaaah, as soon as I find that of "the men you'd shag"... *sighs*

Oh my.

It happened.

HEATH LEDGER GOT THE NOMINATION!!!!!!!

Thank God!!! *grins madly*  ... I jumped on my chair in happiness when I read it!

I complain about the fact that THE DARK KNIGHT got only THIS nomination, but you can never know how it'll go at the Oscars...

Anyways, here's the link to the official list: www.goldenglobes.org/news/id/104

Some other VERY positive notes:

Gomorrah nominated for best foreign movie!!! GO ITALY!!!!!!!!!! *claps hands happily*
Kevin Spacey nominated for best performance by an actor in a mini-series. YAY!!!!!!

Speaking of this, have you heard about the Australian Oscar to Heath?

quotidianonet.ilsole24ore.com/spettacoli/2008/12/09/137841-oscar_australiano_heath_ledger.shtml

Go, boy. You deserved it.

On a negative note, instead, an Italian channel showed BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN the other day. And... guess what? They censored it!!! Can you believe this?!?!?!?! What's there to be censored?!? I got SOOOO angry when I saw this and a lot of people out there are protesting against this choice. If they didn't want to show it, why did they buy it? In my opinion, a movie must be taken as it's created. If you're against its plot, or its scenes, no one compells you to watch it or enjoy it, right?
What's even funnier is that last week the same channel showed TRANSAMERICA, that's got some quite explicit gay sex scenes, from what they've told me. That wasn't censored. So, here's what I get from this: sex is allright. Let's just censore feelings. I'm usually optimistic and I LOVE Italy, but seriously: our society must have some problems, if this is what it wants to teach you.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

but have not love, I am nothing

Hola a tutti!

After discovering how to put a texture on an icon (it took me ages to understand it and I'm still not completely certain I got it right...), I spent hours trying out this new ability...

The following ones are the results... most of them were inspired by tutorials I found at Icon Tutorial , while the header comes from Heygravity's tutorial. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I downloaded an amazing texture I used on many of these pictures, this one:

Photobucket

Thanks to its author with aaaall my heart! If anyone out there knows her/his name... let me know! :)

As always, please credit if using, and pleeeease, do not hotlink! :) Thank you!

Whether you can observe a thing or not
depends on the theory which you use.
It is the theory which decides what can be observed

(A. Einstein)

On Saturday I bought my favourite Italian movie magazine, "Ciak". There was a special page about the Academy Awards and whoever wrote the article tried to guess who'll get the nomination for what.

Well, Heath Ledger got a 99% probability to get the nomination for best supporting actor!!!!!!!!
...ok, ok, I know, these are THEIR guesses, but a girl can dream, right?
So. My cheerings for him and his amazing performance. He certainly deserve every prize we can give him!

And to show my support for this awesome actor and the gorgeous THE DARK KNIGHT I created three banners! My Photoshop abilities are getting a little better, see? *feels proud of herself and claps hands happily*

Fonts were download at www.dafont.com/ and I used this tutorial for some of the effects shown in the pictures. Many many many thanks to its author!!!

As always, please credit if taking and pleeeeeease, do not hotlink! Thank you!!! :D

Oh.My.

I don't even know where to begin.

AH! Ok. I know where to begin: if you're a fan of the Twilight Movie  do.not.read the next lines. I don't want to offend anyone, really, but there's a chance my interpretation of the movie will leave you angry, if you liked it a lot. Or even if you liked it a little. I'm sorry for this...so please, don't hate me too much.

.....
.....
.....

But, seriously. This probably is the worse movie I've seen in years. I had low expectations about it and.. I found something even lowest.

Let's start with a good thing, just to reach some peace with every fan out there. Edward Cullen wasn't THAT bad. I found his smile quite sexy and his look, even if a bit too "James-Dean" like, was kinda hot. Another good thing: the scenery were beautiful. Beautiful town, beautiful landscapes. I tried to concentrate on them, for the most part.

But.

Yeah, but. And a big one.

Everything else was absolutely pointless. Boring. Boring to the point I almost felt asleep. ME. Asleep in a cinema. It's like... Scrooge Mcduck throwing his money down a toilet.

Three details, just to keep things short:

) characters: Bella gave me the creeps. She wore the same expression for the whole movie. Never took it off! I swear, at some points my friends and I started betting on it: will she ever change it? ...Other than this, she was also very SLOW. It took her ages to answer a question and sometimes you just wanted to jump in the movie and answer for her. Unsufferable. Not better were the other characters: the Cullens were pointless (have you noticed how Alice played baseball? Noticed... her leg??) and Carlisle's make up was SO fake that all the people in the cinema started laughing when they saw it;

2) scenes: ridiculous! OMG! For a moment you look at them with your mouth hanging open and you ask yourself "Noo... did they seriously do this?!" ...and then you start laughing! Pick the first meeting of Bella and Edward

(spoiler... pass over it with your mouse to see it)

Bella enters the room and find herself in front of an electric fan. Her hair are blown all around her, in an almost slow motion scene and then the camera moves to Edward who is sitted in such a position that you can see a pair of white wings behind him (you know, "angelic style")... when the camera moves you see they are the wings of a stuffed owl casually located behind him. @____@

*tries hard not to laugh*

3) romantic scenes: you know when the characters are shown while speaking and looking eachother in the eye, but you don't hear the sounds they make but only the soundtrack? Those nice romantic scenes always present in love movies? Ok. You can have one, even two of of them in a single movie. But 4 or 5? Oh my. I wanted to tear my hair apart. After the third scene made like this, I said out loud "not again, please" and some people next to me started snickering.

I wonder where they found that director. Where did she study cinematography? She repeated the same moments over and over and, IMO, she didn't know how a camera must be used.

However, on a more positive note, this movie really takes your self-esteem up in the stars. You realize you could be:

1) a better writer;
2) a better director;
3) a better actor/actress;
4) a better make-up artist;
5) a better special effects director;

Not bad for a single movie, right? ;)

Oh my.

On icons and tv-shows

Truth is, sometimes I miss you so much
I can hardly stand it
(Brokeback Mountain)

Some icons from two of my favourite fandoms:

001-015: The Dark Knight (I want that movie in DVD NOW)
016-034: Starsky & Hutch

I guess most of you have heard of Starsky & Hutch at one point or another of their lifes. That show is... epic. In my opinion, one of the best ever produced. No, it's not like LOST, whose plot and cliffhangers doesn't make you sleep at night, nor is similar to 24, that leaves you gaping on your chair in anxiety... This specific show's strenght can be found in the relationship between the main characters: the black haired, childish and always hungry Starsky and the blond, gentle and sometimes sarcastic Hutch. They're completely different and yet deeply connected. At this time, I still haven't found a single show in which a male friendship is portrayed in such a strong way. Indeed, some people describe it as something more than friendship and I stand open to both the different interpretations, since they were never really denied.

I could speak hours about this show, but I guess most of what there's to say can be found here (Starsky and Hutch Canon Compendium). As for the characters, take a look at :

- The Comfort Zone. Unfortunately you have to save the vids to be able to see them... but Late in the Evening is worth it! Great Paul Simon's song + Seventies-atmosphere + Starsky & Hutch at their best = perfection!).

- Enednoviel's fanvideos;. Some of them are slashy in content, but nothing that couldn't be taken as a show of friendship on both parts. Superman, for example, is a vid about Hutch and the words of the song seems to be speaking about him... Another vid I like is Lucky, a close up on the way Starsky & Hutch interact with each other.

And now back to the icons. Not many of them, but I'm working on it ;)

Movies to come

Tutti abbiamo una ferita segreta
per riscattare la quale combattiamo
(Italo Calvino)

Premise (is that an English word or did my dumb mind just make it up?):

Italy has a very bad habit: cool movies always come out later than in UK or USA. Guess we share this fault with other countries, but it's something that really annoys me...

For example,  Wall E had just come out in our theatres when my Californian sister told me they had it in DVD already. *snorts*
Similar thing with the episodes of The Lord of the Rings:

official American release --> December;
Italian release --> January.

That wait was NIGHTMARE, believe me.

Anyway, my only source of happiness, in these loooong waiting-periods, are trailers and reviews from people who's seen movies I'm interested in.

My last discoveries are the trailers of Revolutionary Road and The Reader, both with the amazing Kate Winslet... how I love that woman! She's got this "everyday-housewife" kind of charm and beauty that I absolutely adore!
--> watch The Holiday for references (her character was ten thousand times better than the character played by Cameron Diaz)

So: here are the links... if you're lucky enough to watch these movies before me... let me know if they're good, please!

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
(Bonnie Tyler)

I've spent the last days (well... the free time, at least) reading an amazing DARK KNIGHT fanfic... I started it when the author began to publish its chapters on livejournal, then graduation and other things came and I forgot about it.
I bumped on it again, while visiting my communities and... oh, my. That story is AMAZING. Full of anger, despair... and with a very good analysis of the characters' psychologies. I seriously recommend it: its title is Slipping into entropy and you can find it here --> [info]into_entropy .

...mmm... I should probably write down a list of recommended fics... I always find them useful...
Ok... l'll think about it.........

Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives.
When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?

One of the highlights of going to a literary festival is hearing authors read from their own works. What author, living or dead, would you most like to hear read?

I would really like to hear Jack Kerouac. He's not my favourite author, and yet it would give me goosebumps to listen to him reading On the Road.

Lord of the Rings Icons

Life had never been sweeter
(Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

Hi there.

Woah, a looong time has passed since I last came here, but I'm justified: last week I graduated!!! YAY FOR ME! ...a very nice experience, followed by this strong urge to eat whatever came into my line of vision... @__@  A second problem was that Internet at home stopped working for two weeks and I certainly couldn't upload pictures from work... I love icons... but I'm not ready to get sacked because of them. ;)

Anyway, I created a new bunch of them: this time, inspiration came directly from the most amazing movie ever created, The Lord of the Rings. It's a long time I want to do something with its images: they're certainly breathtaking. What I did with them, however, was't much... I cropped them, played around with light and contrast and created something that you've probably seen thousand times, and in better forms, on the net. ...yet... it feels good to have my own LOTR creations out there. :)

Some of these icons were made using tutorials of [info]uremy1</lj> (absolutely AWESOME tutorials).
